Jazz Band

The Adrienne C. Nelson Jazz Band is open to instrumentalists in grades 9 through 12 who want to further their study of instrumental jazz music, and develop their personal musicianship through an extensive exposure to significant compositions for the jazz band.  Jazz Band performs 3-4 concerts each year. In addition to rehearsing solo and chamber compositions, all students in Jazz Band will also prepare music for and perform as members of the Nelson High School Pep Band.

Measures 1-31 with the recorded accompaniment track. Play once through solo as written. Additional points earned if you can play through a second time using appropriate comping different from the written version.

Perform the excerpts demonstrating appropriate groove/style. Make sure to "set up" ensemble figures as indicated. 

Reference recordings are provided for practice only. Students will perform without accompaniment in the audition.
